Senior Financial Analyst for community services agency client, downtown Toronto.

Initial Term:  November 21, 2022 to July 6, 2023.
Compensation: $49.21 per hour.

Regular Work Hours: 9 am to 5 pm  not including unpaid 1 hour lunch break, Monday to Friday (35 work hours per week).
Work Location: 100% onsite at Client’s downtown Toronto office, near TTC station.

Responsibilities Summary: 

Leadership Responsibilities (Direct Supervisory): 
Provide direct supervision and leadership to 2 Planning Analysts.  Responsibilities include hiring, determining work priorities, providing direction and training, setting performance standards, conducting performance appraisals and addressing any performance issues.

Additional Responsibilities:
Responsible for timely and accurate provision of financial information and analyses, reports, financial statements and budgets.  Support Manager, Financial Planning to prepare budgets, business plans, accounts analysis, and reports for internal and external stakeholders, including funding Ontario ministries.

  • Financial reporting including monthly reports for distribution to all agency branches and departments; quarterly reports for Board of Directors, Audit and Finance Committee and funding ministries; and year-end reports for auditors and other relevant parties.
  • Budget development including multi-year budget models for presentation to the senior leadership team and key stakeholders in support of strategic planning and decision making, and budget variance analysis.
  • Provide financial forecasting, projection reports, and financial models to support multi-scenario analysis of strategic initiatives.
  • Develop Excel based tools and analysis of accounts as required.
  • Provide back-up supervisory coverage for general accounting department and accounts payable departments as required.
  • Additional financial reporting and analysis, supervisory and project based responsibilities as required.

Qualifications: 
Education:  Post secondary Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
Professional Credentials: CPA Ontario membership in good standing, with recognized professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).
Preferred Work Experience:  At least 5+ years of recent experience in a senior accounting position, with specialized experience in budgeting, reporting, analysis and forecasting.
Preferred Sector Experience: Public sector or not-for-profit sector experience an asset.
Leadership Experience and Skills:  Proven relationship building and people skills to provide a positive leadership example and facilitate cooperation between diverse groups.

Technical and Language Skills Requirements:  

  • Proficiency with Oracle accounting software or comparable system.
  • Proficiency with Cognos business intelligence software or comparable system.
  • Proficiency with MSOffice including Excel (expert level) and Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Proficient English communication skills, both written and verbal, including strong business writing and verbal presentation skills. Able to communicate complex and technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences.

  • Advanced organizational, coordinative and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work effectively for self and others.
  • Strong relationship management skills including client and vendor relations management, business networking, negotiation, and consulting/advisory skills.  Excellent listening skills, with the ability to provide and receive effective feedback.
  • Demonstrated successful experience of prioritizing work, making decisions and communicating with others within a values framework of respect, equity, anti-racism, diversity and inclusivity.

Additional Requirements: 

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
  • Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities prior to assignment start.
  • Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
  • Provision of certification of full COVID-19 vaccination series prior to assignment start.
  • Satisfactory Background Checks and Employment References.
