Compensation: $55 per hour.

Regular Work Hours:  FULL TIME HOURS; 7.25 hours per day not including 1 hour unpaid lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (36.25 work hours per week).
Work Location:  Hybrid – combination of 2 days remote-based and 3 days onsite at client’s downtown Toronto office, near TTC station.  

Reports to: Controller.

Responsibilities Summary:    
Reporting to the Controller, position will coordinate and provide accounting expertise on corporate financial planning and corporate accounting functions, including internal control and reporting processes, and financial system administration and programming.

  • Coordinate and ensure timely completion of month-end and year-end financial close/external audit processes, as well as ministry reporting requirements.  Coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting submissions to the Ministry.
  • Conduct financial analysis projects for large scale programs, identify potential issues and present recommendations.
  • Develop multi-year financial forecasts and estimates, and manage consolidation of data into the appropriate financial statements. Coordinate financial reporting requirements, including budget/expenditure variance reports, annual financial reports.  Consolidate financial planning proposals from individual departments and prepare corporate financial plan and operational budget for review and approval.
  • Maintain an integrated, coordinated financial planning framework, ensuring that corporate, program and project budgets support corporate business directions.
  • Coordinate review, processing and analysis of agency assets and liabilities, and ensure accuracy of expenditure payments.   Lead financial analysis of corporate, project and vendor accounts and ensure accuracy.  Act as backup cheque signatory.
  • Coordinate identification, investigation and resolution of budget expenditure variance issues. Determine expenditure trends, and develop and recommend plans for expenditure management, cost saving measures and strategies.
  • Review and interpret financial planning directives, business objectives and new program initiatives to determine the financial impact; and apply general policies and procedures to the development of recommendations.
  • Provides guidance and supervision to unit staff, including establishing performance standards and monitoring results to ensure quality.
  • Additional financial planning and accounting management, review, analysis, advisory and reporting responsibilities as required.

Qualifications: 
Education: Post Secondary Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent discipline.
Professional Credentials: CPA Designation.
Preferred Work Experience: At least 5+ years of experience as a senior accountant, with team and project leadership responsibilities.
Preferred Sector Experience: Public and/or not for profit sector accounting experience preferred.

Technical and Language Skills Requirements:    

  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in MS Excel, (e.g., pivot tables, macros, advanced lookup) may be tested.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with ERP level accounting software (e.g. MS Dynamics Great Plains), including computerized financial planning, financial analysis and control, and reporting systems (may be tested).
  • Strong English communication skills, including advanced level business writing skills, and verbal presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences including senior leadership.

Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes:     

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in Public/Not-for-Profit Sector Accounting, generally accepted auditing standards and GAAP/PSAB accounting principles and practices.
  • Proven experience in conducting financial analysis projects for large scale, high value operational programs and projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in corporate accounting management, including budgeting and business planning, financial impact analysis methodologies, and financial controls. 
  • Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible, reliable and works to deadlines. 
  • Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and engage with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, at all levels of seniority.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply project management principles, methodologies and best practices.
  • Strong relationship management skills including client and vendor relations management, business networking, negotiation, change management and consulting/advisory skills.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
