Finance Accountant for provincial government agency client, Scarborough head office.

Compensation: $26.12 per hour to $35.82 per hour, according to experience.

Work Hours: 7.25 work hours per day, not including 45 minute unpaid lunch break, to be worked on a scheduled shift between the hours of 8:30 am to 9 pm, Monday – Saturday; and 11 am to 6 pm on Sunday (36.25 total work hours per week).  Additional paid overtime may be required.
Work Location: 100% onsite at Client’s Scarborough office, close to 401 and on bus route. Free parking provided.
Dress Code: Business or Neat Casual Dress; Facemask to be worn in designated areas of client facilities as required; Non-Scented Personal Products Workplace Policy in effect.

Responsibilities Summary:  
Provide accounting, financial management and coordinative support services to Finance Department manager and team.

  • Prepare bank reconciliations and journal entries with proper supporting schedules.
  • Prepare requisitions for expense claims reimbursement.  
  • Cash flow management.
  • Reconciliation of invoice schedules, in compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Preparation and processing of GST/HST and PST returns and payments.
  • Additional Accounting and Financial administration, reconciliation and reporting responsibilities as required. 

Qualifications:    

Education: Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in related discipline, or applicable combination of work experience and education.
Professional Credentials:  Working towards or completion of CPA designation.
Preferred Work Experience:  At least 3+ years of progressive experience in an accounting role.
Preferred Sector Experience: Public sector, broader public sector or not-for-profit sector accounting experience preferred.

Technical Skills Requirements: 

  • Advanced proficiency in MSExcel (will be tested).   
  • General proficiency in MSWord, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Great Plains an asset.
  • Proficient English communication skills, both written and verbal, including satisfactory business writing skills.

Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes:     

  • Sound knowledge of budgetary theory, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Sound knowledge of risk management and control theory and best practices.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting and financial management concepts and methodologies, including fiscal reporting cycle, financial statement preparation, analytical review, accrual accounting, and account reconciliation and procedures related to financial statement elements (e.g. bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, collection, capital assets and depreciation, leases).
  • Strong familiarity with financial data management processes, reporting systems and techniques, and maintenance of financial databases.   
  • Superior attention to detail, and organized, methodical approach to completion of tasks.
  • Proven ability to respond to sensitive and confidential matters with tact, discretion, and excellent judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
  • Excellent listening skills: ability to provide and receive professional, effective feedback.
  • Professional, pleasant and courteous; able to work well both independently and collaboratively within a team and liaise effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite as required, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
  • Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
  • Provision of certification of full COVID-19 vaccination series prior to assignment start.
  • Satisfactory Background Checks including CPIC Check, Education and Credentials Verification, Technical Skills Evaluations, and Employment References.
