Corporate Accountant for provincial government agency client, downtown Toronto.

Job Type: Temporary.
Initial Term: September 25, 2023 to March 29, 2024, with possibility of extension or conversion to direct-hire contract.
Compensation: $52.19 for term of the assignment.  Salary of $95,000 per annum should position convert to direct-hire contract.

Regular Work Hours: 7.0 work hours per day, not including unpaid 1 hour lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (35 work hours per week).
Work Location: Hybrid – split between remote-work and onsite at client’s downtown Toronto office, on TTC line. Hybrid split to be determined upon placement, with minimum 3 days onsite per week.

Responsibilities Summary:  
Provide financial management and analysis, reporting and treasury services, financial processing services, financial reporting assurance through design and maintenance of effective controls, and year-end support.

  • Support the implementation of Workday ERP, including Adaptive Planning.
  • Operate as sign-off accountant for all system development impacting financials and cash, as designated by Controller.
  • Update existing or create new integration methods to automate data capture in the Financial Information System.
  • Provide effective financial processing and financial reporting services.
  • Provide year-end support, including reconciling schedules and supporting information for period end adjustments and estimates.
  • Lead internal/external project teams, as designed by Controller.
  • Develop training materials and support delivery for staff training sessions.
  • Act as advisor to the Controller and the CFO on financial matters as required, and identify and drive business improvement opportunities.
  • Additional corporate accounting responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:  
Education: Post Secondary Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
Professional Credentials: CPA designation preferred.
Preferred Work Experience: Approximately 7+ years of progressive, related work experience.
Preferred Sector Experience: Public sector, regulatory, or financial sector experience preferred.

Technical and Language Skills Requirements:    

  • Advanced proficiency with Financial Information Systems, Microsoft Office, and other relevant software.
  • Experience with Workday ERP an asset.
  • Strong understanding of taxation – payroll and commodity taxes.
  • Proficient English communication skills, including strong business writing skills and verbal presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently, collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

Additional Requirements:  

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
  • Ability to work both remotely and onsite as required, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
  • Ability to provide 3 qualified employment references who are available to speak with promptly upon request, and may be contacted by either Marberg or the Client.
  • Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities.
  • Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
  • Ability to complete a satisfactory Provincial Government security check, including a Fingerprint Check, prior to assignment start.  Please note that Marberg will reimburse for the cost of the security checks upon confirmation of assignment start and submission of approved expense receipts.
  • Additional satisfactory Background Checks and Technical Skills Evaluations as required.
