Business Analyst for provincial government agency client, downtown Toronto.

Job Type: Temporary.
Initial Term: April 28, 2024 to July 26, 2024, with possibility for extension.
Compensation: $31.34 per hour.

Regular Work Hours: FULL TIME WORK HOURS 7.25 work hours per day, not including unpaid .75 hour lunch break, to be worked between 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday (36.25 work hours per week).
Work Location: Hybrid – combination of remote and onsite work, with 2 days per week required at Client’s downtown Toronto office, near Union and GO stations. Onsite work expectations subject always to client business requirements, and may change according to client business need.

Business Analyst – Responsibilities Summary:
To engage internal and external stakeholders to identify and document requirements, identify areas for improvement, as well as support projects and their deployments to ensure optimal system solutions are implemented. Reports to Manager, Enterprise Business Systems.

  • Develop thorough understanding of business goals, practices and processes to connect them with the needs of the end users.
  • Investigate business unit functions and processes and uncovers areas of misalignment and potential issues, proposing solutions to address.
  • Identify areas to improve user experience for both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Support stakeholders in systems testing and identify gaps, making recommendations for problem resolutions and clarifying functions.
  • Facilitate dialogue and discussion with stakeholders to prioritize between competing objectives (i.e. run meetings, workshops, support sessions, training sessions).
  • Assist business units’ stakeholders in understanding scope limitations and managing expectations during project implementation.
  • Assist in change management efforts, including communications and risk mitigation strategies, to prepare the business units for successful adoption of system changes to achieve business goals.
  • Ensure project efficiencies through managing of business units stakeholders’ expectation and needs and identifying areas of waste or duplication.
  • Help manage tracking and scheduling of stakeholder engagement activities to ensure optimized coordination and effective use of time and resources.
  • Additional business analysis responsibilities as required.

Business Analyst – Qualifications:
Education: Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Engineering, Business Process Improvement, or related discipline, or applicable combination of work experience and education.
Preferred Work Experience: At least 2+ years of work experience as a Business Analyst.
Preferred Sector Experience: Public Sector, and/or Construction or Transport industry experience preferred.

Technical and Language Skills Requirements:

  • Advanced MSOffice software skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint, and Project (may be tested).
  • Proficient English communication skills, both written and verbal, including strong business writing skills and professional verbal presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences.

Business Analyst – Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes:

  • Experience working in Finance department an asset.
  • Experience leading teams to successfully deploy technology solutions in transport or construction industry an asset.
  • Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible, reliable and works to deadlines.
  • Pleasant and courteous: demonstrated commitment to client service and professional representation of the organization.
  • Proven ability to respond to sensitive and confidential matters with tact, discretion, and excellent judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently, collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply project management principles, methodologies and best practices.
  • Strong relationship management skills including client and vendor relations management, business networking, negotiation, change management and consulting/advisory skills. Excellent listening skills, and the ability to provide and receive effective feedback.
  • Demonstrated successful experience of prioritizing work, making decisions and communicating with others within a values framework of respect, equity, anti-racism, diversity and inclusivity.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
  • Ability to work both remotely and onsite as required, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
  • Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities prior to assignment start.
  • Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
  • Satisfactory Background Checks, Technical Skills Evaluations, and Employment References as required.
