Accounts Payable Specialist for Provincial Government client in Downtown Toronto.

Compensation: $22.88 to $25.65 hourly.
Work Location: Onsite in Downtown Toronto on TTC line.

Responsibilities Summary:

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accounts Payable Specialist will process a variety of accounts payable transactions for the client.

  • Verify completeness of submitted documentation and process all accounts payable transactions such as purchase orders, honorariums, bursaries, employee expense claims, payroll payments, and TP/P card administration. 
  • Ensure that invoice batches are coded accurately and that supporting documentation is attached; enter invoice information into the database; generate back-up reports; forward documents for approval or signature. 
  • Prepare documentation for Vendor or Customer file changes.
  • Oversee preparation and distribution of cheques.
  • Prepare and initiate payment reversals and reissues.
  • Print and distribute monthly financial reports; maintain and update accounts payable listings, general ledgers, vendor files and file numbers. 
  • Maintain physical filing systems. 
  • Validate accuracy and completeness of paperwork for accounts payable transactions; identify and resolve inconsistencies.
  • Follow up with vendors or departments to obtain missing information. 
  • Assess employee expense claims and supporting documentation.
  • Assess monthly vendor statements; track and resolve missing payments. 
  • Additional Accounts Payable Specialist responsibilities as required.


Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Business, or Finance.
Preferred Work Experience: 2+ years of full cycle Accounts Payable experience.
Preferred Sector Experience: Hospital & Health Care.

Technical Skills Requirements: 

  • Computer proficiency and strong data entry skills.
  • Experience with accounting and spreadsheet software including ACCPAC Sage 300, Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management tools (will be tested).

  • Advanced organizational, coordinative and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work effectively for self and others, meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.

  • Ability to work 100% onsite, abiding by organization Health and Safety policies.
  • Provision of certification of full COVID-19 vaccination series prior to assignment start.
