Job Description: 

Legal Secretary required for government office in downtown Toronto.  Main duties involve taking dictation; transcribing from hand-written notes; drafting and editing confidential legal/court related documents and other office and clerical duties as required.  Experience working in Litigation is preferred. Will be putting together legal documents/document books (e.g. appeal books, books of authorities, motion records) by checking to ensure the photocopies are clear and complete. Will be maintaining and coordinating appeal, prosecution and purge court files; maintaining accurate record-keeping systems.  Scheduling and coordinating court dates, meetings, appointments and conferences; making travel and accommodation arrangements for counsel and witnesses and preparing travel and expense claims. Arranging for special services such as court interpreters; screening telephone calls, taking messages and receiving visitors; performing back-up duties for other secretarial staff and for reception as required. Candidates must have knowledge of working with legal documents (e.g., subpoenas, factums, motions, pleadings, citations, affidavits etc.) and have previous Legal secretarial, administrative and clerical experience.  Knowledge of criminal appellate and trial litigation office methods and procedures and related policies. Knowledge of relevant Criminal Appeal Rules and Rules of Criminal Practice.  Must have a typing speed of 60 words per minute and have excellent coordination, organization, planning and time management skills. Must have strong proficiency in MS Office (e.g. Microsoft Word, Windows, Excel, and Outlook E-mail) and customized data base applications to perform word processing duties. Must have the ability to organize and prioritize to develop work plans and resolve day-to-day priorities and operational and workload problems.  Those interested in this position please email
